The Spring in Opterushë

A natural water spring. The water is clean and the residents use it for drinking, washing and cooking.

In the 1990s the residents themselves arranged the bed of the spring, which the local residents call “Vrella”. The floor is paved with gravel (stone), and the flow has been covered to protect it from pollution and from the penetration of surface water. In 2004 a new building was constructed, and from there the network of water pipes was distributed to several neighbourhoods of the village, where the water is pumped to a height of up to one km, or about 170 metres above the level of the spring. The surplus water comes out into the bed and spreads into a reservoir, where animals drink water and children cool off. The water flow is active throughout the year.
