About the municipality

One of Kosovo’s ancient towns

Rahovec is one of Kosovo’s ancient towns. The territory of the municipality belongs to the Prizren region and enjoys a good geographic position: it lies in the central part of the Balkan Peninsula, in South-Eastern Europe. During the 19th century, when the Vilayet of Kosovo was founded, Prizren remained the centre of a sanjak that comprised five kazas (districts): Prizren, Rahovec, Tetovo, Gostivar and Luma (M. Kaleshi). With the Vilayet of Kosovo seated in Skopje, from 1888 Prizren again became one of the six sanjaks of the vilayet, made up of five kazas: Prizren, Rahovec, Tetovo, Gostivar and Luma. Rahovec became the administrative centre of the Anadrini area.
