Tumulus and Settlement in Pastasel

Tuma dhe Vendbanimi në Pastasel

The tumulus necropolis is located in the northeastern part of the village of Pastasel, on a flat rocky hill known to the local inhabitants as “Fusha e Breshkave” (the Tortoise Field). The position of the tumulus necropolis is quite special and has an extraordinary dominance over the whole plain territory of the south-western area.

During the survey, three tumuli of different sizes were recorded, but since in some parts the terrain is covered with bushes and oaks, the possibility is not excluded that there are other tumuli. They are built mainly with a little earth and many dark grey field stones. The tumuli have a semi-spherical shape with dimensions ranging from 16-18 m and a height of 0.6 up to 1.5 m.

Based on information gathered in the area, we think that this necropolis belongs to the Bronze Age, but that it may also have been reused during the Iron Age. This assumption also comes from the fact that about 150 m east of the necropolis a hilltop settlement was recorded, where a prehistoric rampart line was preserved, which is characteristic of the Bronze Age.
