The village of Opterushë is in the Municipality of Rahovec, namely 7 km southeast of Rahovec, on the Rahovec – Suharekë road. The village has an area of nearly 9 km2 with an average elevation above sea level of 450 m. The site of the church and the cemetery is located in a raised part of the village, at an elevation of 540 m above sea level. The walls of the church are still preserved, and inside them the frescoes are still preserved in some places.
The church is thought to date from the 14th-15th century, the late Middle Ages. The church was built of limestone and tuff stone, all taken from the local terrain. The graves around the church are numerous; they are built with slab construction, and at the head and foot they have stones, with the cross at the head. The crosses are of the Maltese type.
In archaeological excavations, skeletons were found in some graves, as well as factual material dating from the period between the two world wars. It is thought that these graves were reused during this period, since the archaeological material does not match the construction of the graves and the gravestones. This cemetery was also used at the end of the 20th century, and this has caused much damage to many old graves.
The walls of the church and their structure are today in good condition, since the walls have been conserved.
