Old Mill of the Isaku Family (Vuçitërna), Rahovec

The mill of the Isaku family (Vuçitërna) is located near the town of Rahovec, about 700 m from the Rahovec–Malishevë main road. It is built in the middle of a meadow beside which a river flows, on an irregular plot of sloping terrain.
The exact date of construction of the mill is not known, but it is presumed to have been built at the end of the 19th century. From the time of its construction until 1990 the mill performed its primary function, while today it is no longer functional.
It has a rectangular plan and is built on a single ground floor, as a single space for grinding flour, but owing to the owner's needs it was divided into two parts with clay blocks. The walls are built of various river stones bound with mud mortar and reinforced with timber lacing (hatulla). The mill's outer walls are pointed with lime mortar, while part of the interior walls is plastered with lime mortar.
The roof structure is hipped, made with timber beams and covered with local stone slabs (rrasa).
Two doors, opened in the eastern part of the building, connect the outside with the inside. The arched opening, the original one, is on the right side of the building, while the other opening came about as a result of access to the space that was divided later.
In the interior, the mill has two spaces where the movable equipment is located, and some original elements needed for its operation have been preserved. The grinding equipment is not in working condition.
The mill is an economic building and material evidence of the way flour was processed during the 19th century. At the same time it is tied to the service this building provided to the population for grinding flour. From an ethnological point of view, this craft of traditional flour milling is disappearing, so preserving and cultivating it is of great importance.
The mill of the Isaku – Vuçitërna family, based on an assessment of the damage, is in a moderately good physical condition.
