The castle (Gradisha), that is, the fortress of Gexhë, is located in the village of Gexhë, Municipality of Rahovec, east of the course of the river and above the canyon of the White Drin, positioned about 500 metres north of the Hidden Bridge (Ura e Fshejtë). On the highest part of the Gradisha hill there once stood a fortress fortified with defensive walls and towers. The fortress has not been excavated to this day.
The fortress or Gradisha of Gexhë has a very good geostrategic position. The fortification developed on the northern and northwestern side, along the flat terrace that extends to above the steep cliffs of the White Drin canyon, which forms a natural defence, while in line of sight it communicates with several other fortifications, such as Suka e Cërmjanit, Kodra e Hereqit, Gradina e Gurit të Kuq and, to the northeast, Gradishta of Zatriq. On the upper plateau of the hill in question, the traces of the fortification can be seen, with approximate dimensions of 150 x 90 m and an approximately trapezoidal shape. There are also indications of traces of several towers.
Based on the pottery fragments found here, a multi-layered hilltop settlement is attested, whose timespan runs from prehistory, namely from the Bronze Age and the first Iron Age. Likewise, many fragments of ceramic vessels dated to the Late Antique period were found on the surface here, the period to which the fortification also seems to belong, with many planimetric elements of a castrum. According to written sources, this castle has clear elements of a castrum, and may have been built perhaps in the time of the Tetrarchy (4th century) and was used throughout the Late Antique period.
